I rediscovered this photograph of a Medieval historical re-enactment group in a file from 2008 and remember the circumstances, albeit not the exact details of the re-enactment, because I have only visited the Tower of London once, despite being a regular visitor to London:

Very chivalrous, although, a sketch of the re-enactment in one of my old sketch books shows a much more violent part of the proceedings:

 

The drawing is dated August 2007, so I must have copied it from a photograph I subsequently deleted or have hidden in some yet to be rediscovered album. Sadly, I haven’t been able to find any further information relating to the re-enactment in front of the famous White Tower, so we’ll just have to use our imaginations.

Happy Mother’s Day! I found this family group in a box, one of many boxes, lined up down the right hand side of “Grannies Parlour”, an antiques and collectables shop in Hull. The shop front is small and it shares a doorway with the the barbers next door, but don’t be fooled; the shop makes up for it’s width by it’s extraordinary length! Just as you think it’s finishing you turn into another room piled high one man’s rubbish and another man’s treasure.

Bric-a-brac, Hemswell Market, Hemswell Cliff.

This was the very first photograph in my photograph collection, which I found, unframed, nestled in amongst the bric-a-brac on the car boot at Hemswell.

“Ephemera”, The Beverley Old Book Shop.

I discovered this photograph in a box marked “Ephemera”, upstairs in The Beverley Old Bookshop, and I’ve never seen one quite like it (note the silver, embossed, frame). I also picked up a copy of Jaroslav Hasek’s “The Good Soldier Schweik” and an old map of Dorset.
The Beverley Old Bookshop is well worth a visit if you like books and you’re in Beverley, but if you want something in particular you better look them up in the telephone directory, because they don’t do computers.
