I wasn’t a frequent visitor to the church of St. Charles Borromeo, but it was on my route down Jarratt Street to “The Old English Gentleman” public house on Worship Street. In times of great stress, usually in the weeks leading up to my exams (I was at university at the time), I’d wander in and spend a moment in silent prayer (before walking the rest of the way to “The Old English” for a pint of Smooth). Look out for it if you’re on your way to the New Theatre on Kingston Square, which is off Jarratt Street, or if you’re on your way to “The Old English”.
