The Saltaire Octopus, 17/05/14.

It turns out that this rather charming octopus marks the start of “The Aire Sculpture Trail” and that it is one of fifteen sculptures that link Saltaire to Shipley. Seeing it in isolation, it looked like the octopus had clambered out of the Leeds – Liverpool canal to enjoy the sunshine. If you’re walking from Salts Mill to Roberts Park you will probably spot it. Note how it has one eye fixed on the canal at all times.

One of two bears in fact. To knowledge I never walked down Albany Street, but the bears are clearly visible from Spring Bank, which is on a main bus route up to the University, so I passed them frequently. I must have taken this on one of my walks back into the city centre on either a very pleasant day or a day I’d spent my bus fare on some essential student items like beer or vinyl!
