"Smile!"

“Smile!”

To quote from the pubs website, “Seamus O’Donnell’s is reassuringly and unashamedly old-fashioned” and I got that impression as I walked passed. The windows were filled with an impressive collection of empty bottles, punctuated by old cameras.

I’m not a camera expert, I don’t even consider myself, with my digital camera, a proficient photographer, but all cameras have features in common and the examples in the window definitely had lenses!

...and the reflection of the photographer and a London double decker bus.

…also featuring the reflection of the photographer and a double decker bus.

“An atmospheric church in the heart of London, St James’, Piccadilly is the perfect setting for this play which tells the story of the legend that is Pope Joan – the first and only female to achieve Papal status. Controversial, moving and enthralling, audiences can witness an unfolding of unbelievable and prescient events that have profound parallels today. Unmissable“.

According to the National Youth Theatre’s website [I didn’t go and see it myself, but purely for financial and logistical reasons].

Hard at work.

Hard at work.

According to Network Rail’s website, the Scarborough Bridge, which carries the railway line from York to Scarborough over the River Ouse, wont need replacing for another 120 years following its six million pound “facelift“, so these chaps must have been inspecting the recently completed work. It looks like a very tricky job!

Gone home?

This was the scene when I returned to the stop about an hour later. Do you think they’ve gone home?

“…a dramatic cone which rises 18ft into the air”.

To quote from the At-Bristol website:

“This striking piece, sponsored by the Institute of Physics, commemorates the work of Paul Dirac, the Nobel Prize winning scientist/mathematician who was born in Bristol.

Paul Dirac is most famous for his contribution to the Quantum theory and his discovery of anti-matter“.

I don’t know anything about quantum theory or anti-matter, but I do like a dramatic cone. The building behind the sculpture is At-Bristol, which has “hundreds of hands-on exhibits to explore, live shows and a Planetarium“.  Reflected in the glass you can see the traffic on Anchor Road, Bristol Cathedral Choir School and the twin bell towers of Bristol Cathedral.

Christmas 2014.

Christmas 2014.

Looking good! As odd as it sounds I’ve only ever seen it, if memory serves me, in the weeks between Christmas Day and Epiphany, so it was nice to see it surrounded by the hustle and bustle of the Victoria Quarter on the last Saturday before Christmas.

Leeds.

With a view of the County Arcade, the fountain and a bobble hat.

You can follow this link to the photograph I took almost a year ago of the same Christmas Tree: https://anticsroadshowblogspot.wordpress.com/2014/12/08/the-mirror-ball-christmas-tree-the-victoria-quarter-leeds-020114/.

Groovy.

Groovy.

I never fail to take a detour through the arcades of The Victoria Quarter when I’m strolling through Leeds city centre. I never buy anything, mind you, it’s just that I love Victorian/Edwardian arcades (I think The Victoria Quarter was built around 1900) and the high end shops (but more importantly, the high end shop windows that appeal to window shoppers like myself). What I refer to as the “Disco Ball” Christmas Tree is the centrepiece of the arcades throughout the Christmas season or at least it has been for a number of year. I hope it’s there this Christmas!

Who is that reflected in there? ;)

You can see some older photographs I have taken of the Victoria Quarter’s mosaic floors here if you’re interested: Photo Archive: Mosaic Apples and Pears, Victoria Quarter, Leeds, c.2007.

I wasn’t the first person to photograph the reflection of Holy Trinity Church in the King William Building and I wont be the last. Although the composition of these photographs is the same (I’ve taken several myself over the years) changes in the weather, the different times of the day and my position give each one a timeless and unique quality.
