Another usual example of stained glass from Wimborne Minster [the first being a depiction of The Resurrection]. Joseph of Arimathea, wearing a blue halo, as well as a red cap, lowers Jesus Christ into a “modern box tomb“, on the left of the scene. Nicedemus, who helped prepare Jesus Christ’s body for burial, wears a purple halo and stand on the right of the scene. Mary, The Blessed Virgin Mother, looks composed beside Joseph of Armathea. Mary Magdalene however is obscured by the haloes of Joseph of Arimathea and Nicedemus, which makes for a rather unusual composition!
You can see the top of her head above the haloes and two hands raised in an attitude of grief.

Churches, grandparents, Holy Trinity Church York, Joachim, medieval, St Anne, St Mary, stained glass.
This stained glass panel, rather than depicting the traditional Holy Family (the infant Christ, the Blessed Virgin Mother and Saint Joseph), depicts Jesus Christ’s maternal grandparents. Joachim, Mary’s father, stands with his arms around his daughter, crowned on his right, and his wife, Saint Anne, her wimpled head surrounded a halo. At their feet stands the infant Christ. Note how young the Blessed Virgin looks in this Medieval depiction; you certainly would not recognise her if all you had to go on were the later Renaissance works of Leonardo Da Vinci or Raphael.

candles, Hull, Hull City of Culture 2017, Roman Catholic church, St Mary, St. Charles Borromeo RC Church Hull
I wasn’t a frequent visitor to the church of St. Charles Borromeo, but it was on my route down Jarratt Street to “The Old English Gentleman” public house on Worship Street. In times of great stress, usually in the weeks leading up to my exams (I was at university at the time), I’d wander in and spend a moment in silent prayer (before walking the rest of the way to “The Old English” for a pint of Smooth). Look out for it if you’re on your way to the New Theatre on Kingston Square, which is off Jarratt Street, or if you’re on your way to “The Old English”.

Anglican, Church architecture, Church of England., Churches, Louth, Luke's Gospel, St James' Louth, St Joseph, St Mary, stained glass.
This is one of my favourite stained glass panels from St. James’ in Louth and it is one of the hardest to see, being hidden behind the organ! If you head East, down the North aisle of the church towards the Medieval font you will see the passage that goes behind the organ to a side chapel. All the stained glass behind the organ shows scenes from the childhood of Jesus, including his presentation in Jerusalem; as described in Luke chapter 2. The central panel shows Simeon holding the infant Chris and the right hand panel shows Anna, the prophetess, but I think this panel, depicting St. Joseph and the Blessed Virgin Mother is the best; artistically speaking.
