The “Bee Lady”, more formally known as Mrs Jean Bishop, is famous for her charitable work for AgeUK, shaking her collection tin and wearing her distinctive bee costume for almost 20 years. She won a “Pride of Britain” award back in 2013 and this telephone box was painted as a local tribute. You’ll find it on Carr Lane in the city centre. Bling.

Bling.

After weeks of basking in Team GB’s Olympic glory from the safety of my sofa, via the television coverage and the sports pages of the papers, it felt great to finally take to the streets and soak up some of that positive energy created by Luke Campbell’s bantamweight boxing success. Golden postboxes were popping up across the country at the time, but Kingston Communications went one further and painted one of their cream telephone boxes gold, so, as far as I am aware, Luke Campbell MBE is the only member of Team GB 2012 to have a gold medal, a gold postbox and a gold telephone box.

You’ll find the telephone box, if you have been inspired to go and see it for yourself, outside the Job Centre Plus on Market Place, between Holy Trinity Church and the statue of William of Orange [or, as an old colleague of mine used to call it,  “The statue of King Billy”].
