The hedge.

The hedge.

Before my trip to Kingston Lacy, an impressive country house and garden a short drive from Wimborne Minster in Dorset, topiary was something I largely ignored, but these cheeky looking chaps soon caught my attention from the very start of my visit. I wonder if they are caricatures of people the gardener knows; residence of Wimborne perhaps?

Do you recognise this man?

The Broadway Hotel.

There is no information on the back of this postcard, which I purchased last week, but it turns out there are surprisingly few hotels with this name. This The Broadway Hotel is in Worcestershire (Broadway being the name of the town rather than the name of the street) and the building itself looks exactly the same, but there have been some changes to the topiary by the look of things on-line.
To quote the Welcome to Broadway and The Cotswolds website, “Right in the centre of Broadway over looking the village green next to ancient, domed yew trees, is the half – timber framed and honey stoned Broadway Hotel. Originally built as a rural retreat for the Abbots of Pershore in the fifteenth century The Broadway Hotel is still the perfect place to escape to today”.
